Heritage Mechanical Services installed a new HVAC system that provides filtered air to classrooms, lecture halls, meeting rooms, and office spaces across Columbia Business School.

The completed HVAC system achieved LEED certification and will help significantly improve efficiency and lower energy costs for the University.

Client Objectives

Columbia Business School at Columbia University was expanding their campus by constructing a new center for continuing education that required cutting-edge mechanical solutions.

Solutions

Working as the air side mechanical contractor, we furnished and installed a range of HVAC and sheet metal equipment, including:

  • Approximately 670,000 pounds of sheet metal
  • 54 fans for various exhaust, stair pressurization, elevator pressurization, and outside air systems
  • 211 variable air volume boxes served by dedicated outside air units
  • Eight fan powered chilled beams for the network stair
  • 24 underfloor fan booster units for classroom ventilation
  • 765 active chilled beams and plenums, as well as associated duct, to supply air to office spaces

Client Background

Columbia Business School is one of the oldest business schools in the world. It was established in 1916 as part of Columbia University, and currently serves about 1,200 students.
